When you say Promise doesn't work very well, do you mean Promise Hardware RAID? I was just looking for the controller, and then do Software RAID.
I've had good success with either Promise or HighPoint embedded controllers on motherboards IF AND ONLY IF they are used as IDE controllers. Just for plugging in a disk or CD-ROM, they work beautifully. However, trying to do RAID with their closed, buggy drivers is hell... do software RAID instead.
