Now that you know the firewall's not interfering, I'd telnet your POP3 server to see whats oing on - it might be mozilla incorrectly configured.


To telnet the daemon and check everythings working do the below...

telnet 127.0.0.1 110
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to 127.0.0.1.
Escape character is '^]'.
+OK POP3 Server Ready
user ed
+OK
pass your_password
+OK opened mailbox for ed
stat
+OK 121 925600
quit
+OK
Connection closed by foreign host.


If you get problems, I'd have a look at the logs - less /var/log/maillog
