Installer hang - parport problem

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Whenever I try to boot the installer for 8.0 or 9, my system takes a
hard hang. I finally tracked it down to the insmod/modprobe on the
parport_pc module. I tried doing that on my curent system (RH 7.1) and
the same thing happens.

Here's the thing: I have the parallel port disabled in the BIOS because
I don't use it, so I wouldn't really expect the low-level driver to be
able to do much with it. However, it's not nice that it hangs the system
and I'm wondering if there's a problem with my motherboard or in the
parport_pc driver. And does anybody have any suggestions on how to
determine this? I tried enabling the parallel port in the BIOS using
0x378 and irq 7 which I believe are the defaults, but the installer
still hangs on the insmod.

Is there a way to tell the installer to not load the parport drivers? Or
to give arguments to it? It didn't hang my current system when I tried
doing an insmod io=0x378 irq=none.

My motherboard is Tyan S2567U3AN Thunder HE-SL ServerWorks chipset.
