You may need to upgrade rpm, too.

Though, it's unlikely that he needs the i386 version of glibc.
Instead, he most likely needs and wants the i686 or athlon version
to match his processor architecture and what he has installed
right now (rpm --query --qf "%{arch}\n" glibc kernel).
