Sound not working

I installed Redhat 9.0 on my system 5 days back. I have 2 sound cards on my system, one is an Intel 82801BA/BAM AC '97 Audio and the other is a Creative Ensoniq ES 1371. Both were recognised during installation, and i chose the creative card as my primary device. For the first two days, audio ran well, then for no strange reason, whenever i tried to play anything, for eg an audio cd, it would play, but no sound would come out. i checked the mixer settings, but all was ok.

Thinking that it might be a problem with the player, i installed Real Player 9 today. Upon first install, it ran the test track fine. I even tested it on an mp3 and it worked fine. Three hours later, when i tried to open real player, it opened and hung. This has been the case since then. When i go to sound card detection and try to play the test sound also no sound is being played. It is almost as if the sound stream has been blocked. From then on, everytime i open realplayer, it hangs and hangs the system too. I even tried to install real player again, but it hasn't helped. Does anybody have any suggestions?
