RE: MySQL problem

Well, we beating this to death because we don't know whether Michael
Sullivan [msulli1355@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] installed from binary RPMs, source
RPMs, or a source tar ball(s). And Mr. Sullivan hasn't re-posted since his
initial request for help (or at least I've not received any other posts from
him).

>From what I've seen, it seems that when most people have this problem that
it's permissions related or they're attempting to use the wrong sock file
when connecting from a client.

And yes, RH does package MySQL so that it can be used right-out-of-the-box.
But did Mr. Sullivan use RH's base packages???

Please note that none of these are valid concerns where the stock
mysql-* binary RPMs have been used. Red Hat packages MySQL so that
basic database usage can occur "out of the box", i.e., creating
databases and tables, connecting to databases, etc.
