How to get rid of disk icons for shares

I am mounting a bunch of SMB shares in fstab and for some reason Gnome
creates icons for the first two that I mount. I've already created
shortcuts to all of them but I can't get rid of these two "automatic" icons.
I've tried deleting the icon files in gnome-desktop and renaming them with a
"." in front. The latter works the first time but then they're back the
first time I relogin. They show up for all users.

Any idea of how to get rid of these pesky fellows?

John
