Okay, I figured out that my /etc/sysconfig/desktop file got wiped out.  I 
replaced it, and at least X and gnome now come up. :)  The only problem is 
that all of my toolbar buttons (open office, mozilla, etc) don't show up 
any more.  I guess I can live with manually re-creating them. :)
