RE: vsftpd v1.1.0 not allowing user logon (but anonymous is allow ed)

Ah! I may be able to see the problem, but I can't seem to fix it. When I
access the security level screen, I see that the security level is set to
high. THe only problem with this is that the firewall was turned off on
installation. Every time I try and change the settings of the firewall, it
defaults back to high again. I've set different trusted devices, different
allow incoming, but when I close and reopen the box, all the settings have
disappeared and the security is back to high.

Confused...

What's your security level?

To start the application, select Main Menu Button (on the Panel) => System
Settings => Security
Level or type the command redhat-config-securitylevel from a shell prompt
(for example, in
an XTerm or a GNOME terminal).

Unfortunately not. As far as I can tell, everything is the same on this box
as our other RH8 box, but I can connect to the other RH8 box no problem. It
is very confusing.

Ok, have you edit the file /etc/xinetd.d/wu-ftpd and change

	disable = no

	for

	disable = yes

and after /etc/init.d/xinetd restart ?

can it help you?

Yes. vsftpd is not allowing me to start it, even as root.

If I ftp to the box and open an anonymous connection, then the vsftpd is
listed in the 'top' output. But I can't manually start it, or log in as a
normal user (or even root!)

I'm open to suggestions...

Thanks for your help so far.

Andrew

Llorens, I don't think this will solve Andrew's problem, since he seems to
have said that he can't start the daemon.

Am I right Andrew ?
