Ah! I may be able to see the problem, but I can't seem to fix it. When I access the security level screen, I see that the security level is set to high. THe only problem with this is that the firewall was turned off on installation. Every time I try and change the settings of the firewall, it defaults back to high again. I've set different trusted devices, different allow incoming, but when I close and reopen the box, all the settings have disappeared and the security is back to high. If I ftp to the box and open an anonymous connection, then the vsftpd is listed in the 'top' output. But I can't manually start it, or log in as a normal user (or even root!)
