vsftpd v1.1.0 not allowing user logon (but anonymous is allowed)

Hi All,

I've googled on this problem and not found anything.

We have a heterogeneous *nix network with Sun, Hp and Red Hat boxes. I am
trying to get the latest Red Hat box to accept ftp connections, but the only
connection it will allow is an anonymous connection. Is there any way I can
get it to accept user logins? We are using NIS for password authentication.
vsftpd is not listed in /etc/init.d. I cannot start vsftpd even as root. It
is giving me a permission denied error.

This is driving me mad! Has anyone got any suggestions why this isn't
working.

The vsftpd.conf file is still the default supplied by Red Hat (ver 8) as are
the other vsftpd files. Our other RH8 box also still has the old
configuration files, but this works.

Any ideas?

Andy
