Is this NAT (iptables) or via proxy?

Sounds like you don't have ip forwarding on, or you aren't NATting
anymore.

Use 'modprobe tulip' rather than the insmod command.

Here are some questions to answer...
 
what is the output of these commands:

'cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward' (this should be a 1)

'iptables -t nat -L (This should show at least one postrouting rule)
