Hi,
I want to configure a mail server for my lan users, i am new with sendmail and cant find proper documentation. I got the famous BAT book but i think it will take me a year or maybe more if i start reading it. Please tell me where i can find some good documentation.

I'm not sure I'm familiar with the book you are referring to here. The Red Hat Linux Bible is the one I'd choose, though. I don't have it in front of me right now, but I believe it has a nice and simple overview of sendmail config. And you don't have to read the whole book; just skip to the relevant section. Also, http://www.sendmail.org/ has lots of documentation.

Apart from that, and at the risk of being one of those annoying people who will say "don't do that" instead of offering real help when people have a good reason for wanting to do what they are asking about, I wouldn't use sendmail at all if I were you. There are many alternatives, and I believe most of them are a lot easier to deal with than sendmail. I'm using Exim - see http://www.exim.org/, which is really straight-forward (installed it as a last resort once in the middle of a night 4 or 5 years ago when I just couldn't get the sendmail config right after an OS upgrade, and it's worked flawlessly ever since.) It's not included with Red Hat Linux, though. Another option is Postfix - see http://www.postfix.org/, which is.
