...I am thinking of taking all windows desktops out of the environment,
but yes there will be some windows based laptops in the network too.
Since i am new to LDAP, b4 i get started i wanted to clear a few things.
LDAP can be used in assigning network resource permission ??? for profile scripts where shall i look?
LDAP is a fast database tailored to deliver bits and pieces of information
to users and daemons that need them. You can store login/authentication
information in LDAP, though LDAP itself does not authenticate. It just
provides the auth info to the process or module that does do the
authentication. Likewise, LDAP can provide both file system export info
and file system automount info, but LDAP itself does not DO the file system
exporting or automounting. Likewise, LDAP can hold information about all
of the printers in a given organization, indicating what the capabilities
of each printer are, the location perhaps, and who is and is not allowed
to access each printer. It doesn't print, though.
Think of LDAP as a place to keep lots of bits of data that are best managed
centrally, both for ease of management and for security reasons.
