clean install while maintaining mail stuff

I recently installed RH9 on an old Pentium 233 as a IMAP server for my 
home LAN and I wanted to do a clean install, while maintaining the mail 
configurations and the mail itself.

Is there anything I need to backup other than:

/etc
/home/*
/var

?

I have /var on a separate partition.  Can I keep this as is while 
reinstalling?
