Yes, the command below should work just fine. I was just suggesting that
you might check for ways to optimize (for performance and tape density)
the dump command some -- read up on "man dump", "man st", and a few others.
I am unsure if there is a device designator that refers specifically to
the device opened in compressed mode (or if that is the SDLT default anyway).


SDLTs are huge anyway, so you will almost certainly be able to fit /var on
a single tape without any other special options. Use "restore -if /dev/nsr0"
to view the contents of the tape afterwards (or to restore it somewhere).
