Find someone's external resolver and run dig against it.

Example (some random resolver == 1.2.3.4):

dig @1.2.3.4 mydomain.com

As an external random resolver, I sometimes use 198.6.1.1 to test that "the rest of the world" can really access my stuff. 198.6.1.1 is one of UUNet's DNS servers, and that IP address has been constant since 1995. Hopefully they'll keep it that way, I've often found bugs by using them for one or two queries.

Another place to do this is www.samspade.org which has a collection of neat tools and functionality. No cost, either, and a very useful site.
