Printing Compressed in Linux.

Hi all!

I have two questions regarding printing.

I need to be able to compress soem output in order to get 132 characters per
line. I do not see how this is possible using lp. Is there another way?

I tried to install cups, but I am getting an error that says the cups lib
does not exist. When I try to install the cups lib from CD-ROM, I get an
error saying that a newer version exists. I tried to remove the newer
version via rpms -e and I got dependency errors. How do I straighten this
out?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
