Robert, You can create a active directory authentication type server using a combination of ldap + sambe .. or you can use just samba and set samba up as a domain controller. The following links should point you into the right direction. :) http://www.unav.es/cti/ldap-smb-howto.html http://www.mandrakesecure.net/en/docs/samba-pdc.php http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/library/l-samba-tng.html James Williams Network Systems Engineer -----Original Message----- From: redhat-list-admin@xxxxxxxxxx [mailto:redhat-list-admin@xxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Robert Hartung* Sent: Monday, October 06, 2003 12:18 PM To: redhat-list@xxxxxxxxxx Subject: OpenLDAP Hello all, I am a little confused in the early stages of looking ino LDAP. I have a small medical office, about 45-50 PCs, that are a mix of Win98, WinNT, Win2K, and Linux [file server as Samba and print server at this stage]. No WinXP yet. I am looking for a single authentication server process that is cross- platform. It is my understanding that LDAP can serve this purpose. Is this a correct assumption? If not I can start looking down another avenue. Thanks for your time.
