RE: OS Desktop Business Model?

hey...

my $0.02 worth..and i don't normally follow this group/thread.... for linux
to compete/succeed against windows/msoft on the desktop... there needs to be
a rock solid office set of apps... for 20% of the price...

then you would see msoft fall like a rock... if oracle put in a $1 billion,
and sun gave their star office app, and then a huge open source app was
create with the star office/funds as a start... within 12-18 months you'd
put a dent in msoft....

have fun

Unfortunately for those of us who are not are evidently in the
minority. (I may not be a guru but certainly not a weenie) It is the
thundering horde of weenies that drive computer/os sales. Unless and
until someone provides a combination of linux that can be run by weenies
that don't want to know anything other than what button I do I push to
do blah blah a linux based distro does not have a chance generating Joe
Home User sales that might provide much revenue.

RedHat is the only distro I have ever really used for more than a week
at a time but distance it has come in the short 5 years or so since I
started dinking with it is lightyears. I 'spect we'll get there
eventually but there is still a long way to go.
