Linux RAID partitions go missing from /dev, but fdisk can see them

Hi all,
I have the same problem as Tor Arne Vestbø in the following thread:

Unfortunately, no one has updated the thread with any resolution to the problem.

Please can someone help & possibly update Tor Arne's thread?

this is my kernel version (kubuntu 8.1):
Linux yoda 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Fri Oct 24 06:40:41 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Any help would be much appreciated :-)
