aacraid just sucks?

I have a natural distrust of hardware raid controllers,
but keep running into cases that support this. aacraid
is a fine example - on a wide variety of different machines,
disks and cards, it seems to deliver crappy performance
(10-20 MB/s).

has anyone gotten good performance from aacraid?
if you configure, say the 21610SA controller as JBOD and use
normal Linux MD raid, can you mitigate the pain?

thanks, mark hahn.
