I don't believe there is much real debate: debate presumes that someone 
will change their mind.

egads - if you're trusting an admin who has so recently said
"would you like fries with that", then you have other serious risks.

OK, to summarize, everyone agrees that:

sw raid is faster, cheaper and not dependent on obscure hardware.
hw raid is "supported" by someone, and runnable by a drooling idiot.

amusing how this resembles the whole linux-windows TCO-based argument.
