sorta OT: vibration dampening, maximum promise cards?

Pursuing the DIY PVC drive enclosure. I seem to be finding vibrations
from nearby drives killing 'em off (heat is under control) when mounted
densely (as permitted by standard Antec cases).

I realize this is a bit 'ghetto', so there may only be limited interest,
but I'll publish my results.

I plan to build it out of PVC, mounting $6 removeable "mobile" IDE drive
trays (with built in fans) to make swapping easy.

Two questions:

1) Any suggestions for dampening vibrations? I'd like to use those huge
blue rubber grommets, but I can't really find enough anywhere..

2) Anyone know what the limit of the newer "tx2" promise 2-channel ATA
cards is in a given system? I read somewhere the older ones were limited
to 3.. I'm at 3 now.
