There was a stupid error in my last posting. Pavucontrol lists the _headphones_ as unplugged, not the headset.
So contrary to what I thought, pulseaudio does not recognize the headset _at all_.
If someone could explain to me how pulseaudio detects bluetooth headsets then I could debug further.
