Now you add here an extra empty line (and in every new function below).
I've seen such style inside the tree albeit it's fairly uncommon. If we look 
at the example "good_function" from our coding style[1] there is no empty line
at the  beginning of the function although it nowhere states that its strictly
forbidden. Maybe Tanu can shed some light here.

Sorry if I'm a little bit annoying here but I'd like to keep our from
now on with as little style inconsistency as possible. I haven't done
any proper review/testing on this, just a quick coding style check.

If you're really lazy you can use my sed script to fix this issues (well
the opening bracket on newline issues at least).[2]
