Well, pidgin should tag their sounds as event sounds. It's pretty easy
to do either via direct PA calls if they support PA directly or by
hacking in some environment variables if they use alsa. With gstreamer
it's also quite trivial.

I'll help you hack on it if you want to get your hands dirty! Just poke
