'Twas brillig, and Lin, Mengdong at 03/11/11 03:55 did gyre and gimble:

> So I feel the a general profile switch stuff does not conflict with but can be a complement to the priority-list-based routing in module-device-manager (m-d-m). If the profile switch can happen before m-d-m routing, the most suitable sink/source in the priority list will become available and help m-d-m routing.

Profile and Port switching is very much part of latest thoughts on the
matter. As you know it's pretty out of date.

Also the m-d-m stuff will be fully deprecated when newer routing systems
will be in place, so I wouldn't base too much on keeping the status quo!

The problem in keeping the priority list and the profile switching
separate is that we then might have different systems for different
purposes all trying to work together, but ultimately just getting in
each others way.

But I'll hopefully be able to write up the current design plan very
soon. Just got a lot on at work and am thus falling behind on lots of
stuff generally - hence why I've been crap at reviewing David's patches
etc. too.
