When I open the volume control, under the "Output devices" menu the
image has

|_ Internal Audio Analog Stereo
Port: Analog Output (LFE) / Amplifier
                  Front Left (slider) xx%
                  Front Rignt (slider) xx%
                                    Silence Base Max

If I open pavucontrol in the CLI, I get the same picture.

I have up to now avoided posting any of this on the PCLOs forum to avoid
having
this thread and theirs at cross purposes, and figuring that the gurus
are mostly
here, which seems to be true: you're one, aren't you?

The word "Port" would seem to refer to the sound device, i.e., the SiS
or the Trident.
