mmm it seems to me that on Symbian and iPhone there's the same issue. It's possible to use hardware encoding along with "tipically non-free" codec like AMR-NB that's very low bandwidth and very important for VoIP over 3G in terms of quality and performance. For Symbian and for iPhone which would be the "common" modifications about having a directly-pjmedia-hardware-hooked cross-platform APIs for both those two platforms? It's possible to think about something "generic and cross-platform" where to hook already available codec API for mobile devices? Following the direction of making pjsip a platform optimized for Mobile usage this would provide a strong improvement (Symbian to iPhone interoperability with Low-Bandwidth-VoIP using AMR-NB codec!) .
