hi all.. thank you so much for your help! i tried out the all the different syntax and the following works perfectly SELECT * FROM `MEMBER` WHERE `PASSWD` = "" thanx, amanda! btw, i was trying to store the encryted password in the database but i do not want anyone who has the right to see the database (even myself!) to be able to know the password, so that there is maximum 'security'.
