Many hosts there days offer mysql and PHP on default. I could point you in the write direction if your
willing to pay around $5 - $10 a month on hosting. Which is quite reasonable for the kind of service you
get and services (more importantly).
Yes, I know but (at this point) it's out of my hands :-(

The site is being hosted by http://valueweb.com "basic" their package is $17.95/month (USD).

What's that's you say a MySQL, that'll be additonal $15.95/month.

My other thought is embedding MySQL(or SQLite) sever, which from what I've read so far is makeing a call to libmysqld?

Any experiences with this type of thing?
