Re: Password/entry

Hi,

For my website I use cookies with PHP. Pretty simple
to do but there is many advanced ways to do it. It
all depends exactly what you want to do and how much
control you want over it.

Do a search on yahoo, google or somewhere for
'.htacess' ... The first time I used username and
password entries I used this. Very easy to setup and
use if you have the ability to use such files on the
server your on.

Now I mainly use cookies to handle things via PHP and
mysql. I find this way alot more reliable on all
browsers. And you can track them on the database if
you wish to for certain actions they do.

But if your learining I suggest you do some reading up
and start with .htaccess file(s) to do it. But if
your keen and willing to learn feel free to jump into
sessions and cookies. (I'd prefer the last way but
both work great)

If you would like the code I use let me know. However
it will be a bit of code that is bare and with min.
instructions. As I am not willing to hand over my
work entirely I have created because a) it wont work
for you as it's setup for my database use and b) it's
better to be bare as you can learn and add to it as I
have also.

However if your using code and wanna pass it on and
show me what you have you can do this and see where
your errors are etc.

To be totally honest using cookies did not take me
long to learn, so a little time and willing to learn
is the key to this.

As for you posting some people are smart a__ on this
board is not really true. People are not willing to
just hand over code for you if you have not at least
given it a try. However I do believe you deserved a
fair go and pointed in the right direction before
people snapping. I'm sorry you got treated in that
manner. Fair enough if you were missing the obvious
but you were looking at the right place at php.net but
I must say the information on there is broad and in
some cases your better off looking on a search engine.
That's where I found 85% of what I was looking for.
But now I post here when seeking help. As people on
this mailing list are happy to help you _if_ you have
some code to show them that you have given it a try
and can give you pointers.

No code here and seeking code, your chances of someone
posting a lovely cute code is slim. How slim? Get
one peice of straw and make him straight, that slim or
possibly slimmer.

Anyways, I hope this post is informative and you
understand my points. (coz half the time I don't, so
if you do thankyou ;))

Goodluck!
