Ok. The categories are coming from checkboxes, e.g.: <input type="checkbox" name="categories[]" value="1" />Accountant<br /> Which then are handled by a $cgi class dealy and handed to the $_SESSION['categories'] variable before being forwarded to the next step. I was thinking that the problem might be with the $cgi object, but when I print_r($_SESSION['categories']) it shows the contents of the array.
