I slightly have different views. IP Header does not contain MAC address. To retrieve client MAC some kind of code should be executed on the client system. Php can get servers MAC but it cant retrieve client MAC. Java Script runs on client but I dont know whether its capable of this or not. If Java Script can retrieve MAC, then ajax can be used to send this MAC to the server which in turn will save the MAC in some kind of data base.
