If you are using cpanel, cron should be an option in cpanel. Check in the "Advanced" section.  Click on the "Cron Jobs" icon.  The following gives a pretty good explanation of how to run php scripts with cron:

The tool in cpanel should simplify the process for you.

  location of php is at end

  Your best bet is to use crontab. There are a number of tutorials on how to
  use cron_tab on the internet. I run custom php scripts in crontab to
  selectively back-up certain tables at different intervals and e-mail me the
  back-up files as an attachment. Data that is not often changed in tables I
  back-up daily, weekly, or monthly. Data that changes daily or hourly might
  be backed up more than once a day or even hourly.
