Hi Dave, I suggest that you immerse yourself in the Wordpress docs and get to understand how it works under the hood. Everything, basically, is a "post". Once you wrap your head around that, start playing with WP_Query and you'll get on the track you're looking for. The #wordpress IRC channel on freenode is quite active and helpful as well.
