There's no point in saying that fopen/fread/fclose is better, in fact, let me quote from the manual page of file_get_contents: "file_get_contents() is the preferred way to read the contents of a file into a string. It will use memory mapping techniques if supported by your OS to enhance performance." If your solution would fix the problem (I doubt, but ok), then you should report a bug to the PHP devs that file_get_contents is broken.
