just to add in; I use 64 bit vista and ubuntu at home (on quadcore), php works fine - likewise at work 64 bit on linux with amd processor - all fine.

one note though.. maybe I'm missing but there isn't a php 64 bit (official) release? maybe there is and I'm blind.
