I had built an extension some time ago, but it needed a lot of work, and I just wound up trashing it. You can use xvfb (X Virtual Frame Buffer) on *NIX systems without running X itself, a stripped down Mozilla navigate to and display the page, and then snap a "screen" shot of the buffer.
