Don't rely on your level of perception to determine IF software (they) have reached a level of cognition or not. It could be they simply have nothing to say to us or their level cognition is so foreign to us that we can't detect it.
We all could be working on a collective that will someday say "Okay, you're finished. I'll take over from here" -- or -- will take over without telling us.
