You will probably have to add PHP to the root or wheel group as a user or something insane like that. I know that the guys that coded the Freedom Toaster also had the same issues with writing CD's, so do some research there as well (although I don't think it was in PHP) and that should give you some ideas. NOTE and Dsiclaimer: This is insane. I cannot think of a single case where this is useful or sane. PHP is not meant to kill processes or do root tasks at all, ever.
