Just checked ./configure and it had this option:
--enable and --with options recognized:
--with-libdir=NAME Look for libraries in .../NAME rather than
.../lib
not sure if that affects *all* options you want to build or you can tell
it just openssl:
--with-openssl=/usr --with-libdir=/usr/lib64
worth a shot ;)
