There may be other canned solutions that are not as bad as OSCommerce. It's the only one I've worked with other than Drupal. I've worked with Drupal extensively, but haven't used its ecommerce modules extensively. But yes, I highly recommend OSCommerce as an example of how not to write a PHP application, of any kind.
