The GTK.so is in the same path all the other extensions are... Also, when logged in through X it works, when using SSH to my machine, it doesn't. I asked on the php.gtk.general list, and I was told this behaviour is expected; the module needs a X environment. It's not going to be fixed in GTK2 either. For now, I've got two php.ini files. One with the extension loaded, one without.
