way to write mysqli result set to disk

is there a way to write a mysqli result set to disk via file_put_contents or fwrite. it looks like we'd have to convert it to an array and then handle the array upon bringing it back in. I'm interested in writing a simple caching mechanism where sql results would be cached.

thanks,

jonathan
