not stupid, although a 'google' might have helped, regardless you have already had the answer. I find it funny that you say 'fix them' - one of the things [some of] the core developers are looking to get rid of is this shorthand syntax (according to posts on internals@xxxxxxxxxxxxx) ... something to do with XML compatibility ... for now its valid php syntax though :-).
