file function

Hi,

I tried file() in the following lines:

<?php
   $authFile = file("/tmp/authenticate.txt");
   print "authFile = $authFile";
?>

However, it only gave me
authFile = Array

What's wrong with this file function? I tried single
quotes, but got the same answer, too.
