This is really simple: if you're not really sure you need the option -
don't use it. This principle applies to both types of options - the ones
that you know what they do, and another ones, those that meaning you are
completely unaware about. For the first time just do a default
'--configure --prefix=...' . This may be will add one or two takes to
get an installation that will fit your needs, but you will definitely
get more understanding.
