couple of things come to mind:

(1) first check,

	nm /usr/local/mysql/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.dylib | grep mysql_query

mysql_query should be defined:

	00001e90 T _mysql_query

(2) have you set your ENV flags?

	setenv CPPFLAGS "-I/usr/local/mysql/include/mysql ..."
	setenv LDFLAGS "-L/usr/local/mysql/lib/mysql -lmysqlclient ..."

(3) is your 'configure' correct?

mine, e.g., includes:

	...
	--enable-pdo \
	--with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql \
	--with-mysql-sock=/var/Process \
	--with-pdo-mysql=/usr/local/mysql \
	...

(4) is there a specific reason you're using gcc3.3?  i'm building here
with 4.0.1, and the build completes OK ...

(5) have you updated to last week's XCode update?
