Well, printing digitally can be a real learning experience, especially if she’s never used professional image processing software. She can learn the same things, basically, on the computer as occur in the lab without the chemical disposal problem. Layers sort of function like test strips.
To me, the entire computer experience is one of developing a visual instinct/sense/style. The thing I bring home from the shoot is rarely what I end up with. There are so many options for interpretation...

My daughter (16) asked me to teach her how to use film cameras, so she and I walked around town with Pentax Spotmatics. She enjoyed the experience, expecially the "tactile" part of film photography and after the 1st roll she asked me to teach her how to develop
